Editing charges.

Here’s how I work; As a guideline for you, I keep my charges between 30% and 40% cheaper than similar editing services websites. But it’s not just the line-editing. I keep a close eye on structure, tension, plot, story, viewpoint, narrative voice, characterisation, tone and pace etc, and advise wherever I can - something most other sites do not offer.

Each writer has a different style and each is at a different level of writing - and so to ascertain my and your suitability as working partners, a sample is required.

To produce that sample and also to enable me to price according to the amount of work I might foresee, I ask that you send me the following information by email:

A synopsis. (I check for structure, plot and story line.)

The first three chapters (for me to read and determine your writing level.) Tell me how many chapters there are and their average size.

An approximate word count of the whole novel.

PLEASE SEND ALL DOCUMENTS AS WORD DOC.

Once I have this information, I will study the synopsis and comment on it. I will then read the three chapters to get a feel for the level of expertise regarding structure, characterisation and pace and storyline handling that you the author is currently at.

I will also edit some or all of the first chapter for you, FREE of charge, so that you can see the quality of edits and advice you will be getting. I will also send you back my feedback on synopsis and the edits received, along with my quotation of charges.

You can then decide from the edited chapter and my comments, if the level of my help along with the charges are suitable for you. If you then decide we can work together, I will complete the editing in blocks of three, four or five chapters at a time. This means that you are only paying out for that block of chapters at any one time and not paying out a lump sum. It also means that you can stop after any block of chapters.

You may decide not to continue for whatever reason. That’s fine. You may decide that learning from my edits (which you will) has increased your skill level so much that you don’t need me any longer. And that would be absolutely fine by me.
